#AmericasRevival: #ServantLeaders Understand the Game / #InsideOut #EpicCommitment #positivedisruption

Can a concerted effort will arise if we all each seek our own? Does good will sustain if we turn our hearts away after a time? Could mental illness be warded off by living a life of servant leadership?  A life of service for others harvests can foster happiness, and hearts and minds that place people before profit shore up peace from the inside out. Taken like a scientific formula, fomenting unique social enterprises which align one’s interest with the local, national and global communities needs in mind and heart becomes a win-win for the bottom line of the individual and the community-at-large. Invariably, this can employ an infinite number of business dynamics under the umbrella term social enterprise. Entry into this industry is so easy that even a child can do it by having a lemonade stand that directs a portion of the proceeds towards a social good. In effect, the lemon selling-business kid becomes a social entrepreneur. In the age o...

Two Sides to the Same Coin / #CivilWar #America #lovingkindness #sinOfslavery #RobertELee #AbrahamLincoln

On my father’s side my family fought against each other in the American Civil War. Protecting ideals, a way of life, family and one’s community was on the forefront of their minds and hearts. With such a burgeoning nation, Americans were beginning to live far from the original thirteen colonies. Their was expansion to the west towards the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and south towards the Floridian panhandle. Life was quite differentiated across different swaths of the United States. In the north, the yankees were focused on growing trade and communication with the world, expanding the military and  beginning to more seriously address the sin of slavery. Slavery was a topic of discussion gaining popular ground. In the south, life was much more tranquil. Plantation owners controlled huge parcels of farm land and developed their crops for sale in America and beyond its shores. Their farm lands were worked by human beings who were owned and directed to work for their masters...

Each of us matters. / #servantleaders #community #thisAmericanQuilt #Dallas

July 8, 2016 Life is precious. Each of us matters. Our worth as individuals is underrated. Each of us has the potential to be incredible positive forces for good in our community.  Just this last Monday, on July 4th I was with my children in New York City. As we approached Central Park we came by a counter-terrorism police officer. I have seen him standing their before. My kids were just walking by him as if he was not there and I took the time to stop and greet him. I said, “kids, this police officer is just standing here, but at a moment’s notice, he needs to be ready to spring into action and do his job to serve and protect us. You may think he does not look like a hero (he was a bit portly), but he is and he is here to protect us.” My kids acknowledged him and he was very welcoming. Then we went on our way. Words matter. They fly through the air and land on hearts and minds impacting us in all sorts of ways. Nothing justifies the murder of five police offi...

The Man with the Open Heart / #ElieWiesel #servantleader #Israel #RIP

"Human suffering anywhere, concerns men and women everywhere." Elie Wiesel When I turned eighteen years of age, I moved from Puerto Rico to Boston to attend college at Boston University. The feeling of being out on my own was liberating. All my experiences in Boston had become novel and a constant point of discovery, be it new people I met or new places I went to. Behind Commonwealth avenue, on 147 Bay State Road sat Elie Wiesel's Center for Judaic Studies. He was a university professor for B.U.'s religion and philosophy departments and well-known for being a champion of liberty and disadvantaged people. After having survived the Buchenwald concentration camp in Germany during the second world war, he moved to Paris in 1945 upon his liberation by Allied troops. By 1954 he published what would be the first of nearly thirty books on the subject of being a brother's keeper to one's fellow man. In 1986, when Mr. Wiesel accepted the Nobel Peace prize f...

A Poem & Facilitating the Development of Self-Expression by #Dancing / #autism #intervention #awareness #DownsSyndrome #ADHD #edchat

somewhere in the heart in a crevice of my mind a spark grows from the inside out a revolution that becomes electric The value of self-expression development to a youth or adult with neurological deficits cannot be understated as an engine of positive growth on multiple levels. Be it typing an essay or writing a short poem, playing a musical instrument or dancing up a storm, self expression can be a form of communication, a work of art and a pathway to bringing our inside selves to the outside. By having typical children, those on the autism spectrum, with downs syndrome or executive function skill deficits   practice story dancing , they actively rewire the cognitive-physical story of their lives. In this case, self-expression can become a self-regulatory, communication life line to individuals who may be otherwise verbally-challenged. All said, the greater task exists in getting the student to recognize the value.  What is self-expression anyway? It i...
