America's Way: A Life of Service-From @MuhammadAli to @theRock / #socialresponsibility #family #youth #AmericanQuilt

updated 2/10/16 Muhammad Ali is known as the greatest boxer of all time. He was a firebrand in his day and stood up for what he thought was right. Some of his decisions were incredibly unpopular with certain folks, such as his refusal to conscript in the armed forces and fight in Vietnam. A war that for the U.S. proved a tremendous expenditure in loss of sons and fathers for a victory that never materialized. Muhammad Ali, a poet, fighter and civil rights leader refused to partake and was ostracized and imprisoned. None of this took away from him becoming the champion of the nation, in fact, it bolstered his platform as an independent-thinking American who was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in. The 'People's Champ' was stripped of his heavy-weight boxing title and lambasted for his un-Americanism. Nonetheless, he stood his ground.   Do you stand your ground for someone else? Do you stand your ground for what is right? This man was at the to...

Dredging for Pearls in #SouthNorwalk / #community #socialresponsibility #youth #families

I live in Norwalk. This is my community now. I use to live in Greenwich on a farm... with a river running through the property. It was nice. But I moved. Now I live in Norwalk. I would like to be part of the solution to revitalizing the South Norwalk Community Center.  It seems like it needs help. My plan begins by politely requesting access to a Board of Advisors meeting and presenting at least seventeen new program ideas that can serve the immediate community of families it serves. The families are the oysters, the pearls are the youth of South Norwalk.

#Lovingkindness: @TiaTorres_ Wears her #SocialResponsibility & Creates #Awareness via #PositiveDisruption #pitbulls

My children, my personal goals, the community projects I strive to bring up to speed and the students I work with fill my mind and heart.  U nless I am writing or driving,  sitting on my derriere is something I am not a big fan of. It is hard  for me to sit still and watch meaningless 'entertainment' on television. I don’t own a TV on purpose. Yet, every once in a while there IS something good on TV. i don't know how the Lords of Television manage, but they actually got something worthwhile on the airwaves. R ecently, I managed to get the gist of what appears to be a show with a great purpose,  Pitbulls and Parolees  on Animal Planet’s network.  ā€˜Short story long,’ it is about a woman who has taken it upon herself to rehabilitate pit bulls with pit bulls. That is to say, actual dogs who have been maltreated, neglected or abused with ex-convicts looking for a second opportunity to empower themselves. Tia Torres leads the pack as a master dog tr...

Cello on the Rise: Scoring a Silent Victory at #Scalzi #Skatepark / #EpicCommitment #allheart #community

Just yesterday I arrived at the skatepark to see that some kids had spray painted a wide swath of the 'street course' within the gates of the Scalzi skatepark. One of our top officers was there to witness it. He did not intervene. I am glad he did not. Later, when I arrived at the park right before a beautiful sunset, another one of our top officers told me that he'd love to use his give the amateur artists a good measure of his time, perhaps let them feel his skateboard. Immediately, I realized that things could get out of hand and derail our stride. I vocalized that we should not make ourselves targets of animosity. One of the officers, Cello, piped in that we we could hoist wood panels on the gates to create 'canvases' to channel the need of aspiring artists to still create, yet directing their 'art' to these panels. Brilliant I thought. Just brilliant!! That's Cello for you! "Lovingkindness fears not It holds its stance" You just...

Our #SocialResponsibility to #Police Officer #RandolphHolder / #UnconditionalLove #guncontrol #community #socialgood

Unconditional love keeps its strength in the face of hopelessness It won’t let itself be bought It won’t let itself be sold Real power comes not in material possessions.  Real power is not measured by the size of a bank account. It does not emanate from some geographic location.  It is not found in the power of the gun, or the fist.  Real power emanates from hearts that love unconditionally. This kind of power is very real and present. Some of it keeps communities safe and sound. It keeps families calm knowing that this power does not go to sleep. It is on twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, year after year, without rest. The hearts that pump this love forward work relentless hours. Always on-call. Ready at a moment’s notice to answer the call of duty. Some of us honor them. Some of us judge them. Some of us don’t care about them. But all of us are taken care of by them. These hearts belong to hero’s. They have names. One of them...
