@ScalziOriginals Skateboard Company Mission / #socent #servantleaders #edchat

A holocratic organization has been purposefully established at Scalzi Skate Park, in Stamford, Connecticut. Our particular form of holocratic organization is rooted in the concept of leading through service to others and decentralizes leadership allowing the company to be led by any team member. The Scalzi Originals Skateboarding Company has a co-founder base that retains full ownership of the company, yet ideas and tactical leadership implementation from any person in our organization is encouraged, discussed and followed-upon. Everyone matters. The individual strengths of each team member is unique and is integrated supporting increased operations management. What We Do With clarity of purpose, we focus on toning executive function skills, social-emotional skills and cognitive-physical synchronicity by teaching skateboarding to typical youths, as well as those with special needs, like autism and Downs syndrome. Why We Do It We want to serve our community in dynam...

@ScalziOriginals.US #StateOfTheUnion @CityOfStamford #skateboarding #positivedisruption #comunity #youth #autism

The holocratic business method is alive and well with the Scalzi Originals Skateboarding School. Based in Stamford, Connecticut's Scalzi Skate Park, the Scalzi Originals skateboarding staff focuses on empowering students to focus on developing executive FUNction life skills by skateboarding. Individuals on the autism spectrum, with Downs syndrome or any intellectual impairment are welcome and included in our current roster. The skatepark is in the heart of the city and is the largest skate facility  in a forty mile radius with a growing skateboarding staff is largely made up of local skaters each with different skills and abilities. The company was founded on an idea of using skateboarding as a means to help develop executive function skills in my own students, some of which are on the autism spectrum. Part of this aim involved bringing positive changes to the skatepark. As it was when I first discovered it in the summer of 2015, inappropriate messages and obscene image...

The Rise of the #SocialEntrepreneur / #servantleadership #positivedisruption #edchat @potus

What value should schools place on setting the strong foundations of developing social entrepreneur/ servant leader-minded students? To be dynamic and spirited, a clear purpose that is found relevant by students is important. What they have to say about the course should be valued and taken into consideration in order to keep the program open to being effective and efficient. A clear purpose valued as worthwhile by the team involves not just actual technical labor needed to co-accomplish a project with fellow peers, but emphasizes on a larger scale the abstract, soft skills (hard skills) , such as grit, perseverance, honesty, integrity, teamwork, empathy and compassion necessary for individual and group work. In developing social entrepreneurs, I believe it should be important to emphasize on the reason why a project is being undertaken. Social entrepreneurs are passionate about their work. They bring their unique traits to the table and see how to best address t...

"Tyler, I Got This": Going from Hesitancy to Commitment in One Drop / #skateboarding #executiveFUNction #community

Five hundred years ago, Christopher Columbus, from Italy, set out on the Santa Maria with two Spanish captains who are maternal ancestors of mine, the Alonso Brothers. They commanded La Nina and La Pinta across the Atlantic Ocean. The three captains and their valiant crew went southwest on adventure for many months to what was hoped to be a new land to them and not the end of earth as many at that time forecasted.  Nothing was sure. This was the first time anything like this had been attempted before across the widest expanse of the Atlantic.  They made it though. They set out on an adventure into the unknown with only the wind pushing their sails being certain. Skateboarding is like that. When you are able to skate the bowls at a skate park, a sense of adventure is attained. It is an epic moment between hesitancy and commitment as the body and mind commit to dropping-in effortlessly and doing all the needed functional balance adjustments to skate down the wall s...

Knockout the Knockout Culture / #MLK #socialresponsibility #skateboarding #community #chess

What propels someone to use physical force, with maximum strength and unleash it on someone else?  Knockout of Elderly Man in Paterson, New York What happened in the family upbringing of the boy who 'knocked out' the bystander in Paterson, New Jersey just days ago? Apparently, an adolescent boy was caught on video walking up to an elderly person waiting to cross the street and with as much force as possible... punched and totally knocked out the senior of small frame. The victim blew backwards immobile and unconscious crashing on to the ground head first.  What was this boys home life with his parents? What has to change so that we no longer are breeding a culture of apathy, anarchy and cruelty? How does this 'knockout' culture reflect macro events and current global situations in the world today?  A chess player gains know-how through experience and consistency, regardless of winning or losing games. Their mind rewires and is able to better app...

The Race for You and Me / This American Quilt / #allheart #allin

It began long ago with a dream that has nothing to do with money. I know what it is like to be incredibly rich and it is not all that. What makes life way more awesome is when we invest of ourselves into each other. That may sound idealistic. It is. My dream is a common dream that shares in part with Dr. Martin Luther King's dream, Mohandas Ghandi's dream and the dream of our American forefathers. It starts with acknowledgements, moves into living at peace with one another and then rocking out full of expression for each other. Life is short, as you know. With all our planning, we don't know what tomorrow holds for us. On my way back home Friday from a canceled session (the #JMan had a fever) I drove by a car accident on the Merrit Parkway near Route 7. The trusty firefighters were there. It seemed that they were trying to get someone out of the car that front-ended another one. Who knows if the person lived or will walk again. Things happen. Maybe they were texting an...
